How Much Will I Pay?

(The Deductible)

In Texas, homeowners are responsible for paying the deductible on all storm claims. This is the only amount you are required to pay out of pocket.

Your policy will state your deductible amount. It is typically calculated as either:

  • A flat dollar amount (e.g., $2,500)
  • Or a percentage of your Coverage A value(e.g., 1% – 2% of your home's insured value)
You pay the deductible.Your insurance company pays the remaining covered amount.
Example:

Home Insurance Coverage (Dwelling): $300,000

Deductible (1%): $3,000

Insurance Payout for Covered Damage: $25,000

YOU PAY: $3,000 (Deductible)

INSURANCE PAYS: $22,000

Important: You have the right to choose your contractor.Texas law protects your right to select the contractor you trust. Your insurance company cannot require you to use their preferred contractor.
